The Latest News On Central Coast 7s in Australia

Besides getting into some fun Twitter banter with our women's rivals Tribe 7s, here's the latest update regarding the teams involved in our October tour to Central Coast 7s in Australia:

NEW ZEALAND POWERHOUSE CONFIRMED FOR SEVENS TOURNAMENT

The Fitness First Central Coast Sevens International Rugby Festival today announced New Zealand Rugby Heavy-Weight and National Sevens Champions Wellington Rugby Union as the latest team confirmed for the October tournament.

Wellington stormed to victory of the New Zealand National Championship in January defeating highly fancied Auckland in the final to claim the title of National Champions for the first time since 2002.

Wellington will join a line-up of powerhouse teams in what is shaping as an explosive weekend of high octane sevens action including:

Yamacia (Fiji) – Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens Champions
Daveta (Fiji) – Borneo Sevens Champions
Tribe 7s (Aus) – Shanghai Sevens Champions
Rangataua (NZ) – New Zealand Middlesex Sevens Champions

The tournament will kick off on Friday 24th October with an invitational 16 team schoolboys tournament followed by the showcase premier 16 team men’s and 16 team women’s tournaments held over Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October.

Tournament Director Craig Morgan was excited by the inclusion of the New Zealand side adding “Wellington are the New Zealand National Champions and will no doubt be here to win, Wellington are another high quality side set to contest this years tournament and we are excited to see them compete against some of the strongest sides in the world of sevens competing against premier domestic teams and other major touring sides from New Zealand, Fiji, Asia and the USA. We look forward to announcing the full line-up of teams in coming weeks.”

The Central Coast event is widely regarded as Australia’s premier domestic sevens tournament featuring explosive on field action and a vibrant sideline family festival.

The game of Rugby Sevens is the fastest growing team sport in the world with the massive boom for the sport expected to continue as rugby sevens heads toward the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio in two years time.

The 2014 Fitness First CC7s is set for 24th, 25th and 26th October with further details available at www.centralcoastsevens.com.au or via the tournaments Facebook page and Twitter account @CC7S.
